Energy Efficiency

Introduction

Inefficient consumption of energy is one of the key concerns in the discourse of unsustainable lifestyles. It not only leads to higher energy demands but also adds to the cost of living. While it is widely accepted that energy efficient products and practices are the best immediate solutions possible to promote sustainability, it is also recognized that despite a substantial scope of efficiency enhancement in the form of available efficient products and technologies, the potential is not exploited enough. However, there are examples where much higher efficiency levels have been achieved in shorter time span: one of the most cited example is the Japanese experience. Many other countries as well as local governing authorities have introduced various instruments and have also taken many initiatives to promote energy efficiency. Many of them have been considerably successful. This offers an excellent opportunity for knowledge and experience sharing for sustainable future.
